In short: What do you want to consult NISHIKAWA? - He has talked most of the time.

This is a copy of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGIyu0misl4 with an English subtitle. This is a short radio program "Chokotto Naito Nippon" broadcast by Nippon Broadcasting System on 2014 Feb. 21st (#5 of 5).
I am sorry if I have mistaken the voices of SU-METAL, YUIMETAL & MOAMETAL. The strange male laughter you may hear is probably the voice of the assistant director beside Mr. NISHIKAWA.

Notes

  1. Mr. NISHIKAWA (aka T.M.Revolution) is famous as the singer standing against a blowing wind because of his early MVs. That night he sang his early hit "White Breath" standing against a fake blizzard like his MV.
  2. Surely all parts were recorded in one day, divided and broadcast on five successive night.
  3. As a girl group, BABYMETAL is the youngest ever (average 14.7 yr.) performing at Budokan, but the overall youngest ever is Johnny's Jr. (average 14.5 yr), or their then youngest member.
  4. Whom does "my junior" refer to? What relation does Mr. NISHIKAWA have to him/her? Both are unknown at all.

Notes

  1. Before long, Miss Moa was already aware that her taste is like that of a middle-aged man. In her school journal of Sakura Gakuin, she called herself "koyaji" (= little "oyaji" = little "middle-aged man").
  2. "Otsumami" (tsumami; picking-up) are accompaniment foods for alcohol. "Kawaki-mono" (= dried stuff), included in otsumami, are such as dried seafood, stockfish, roasted beans, etc.
  3. This episode was incorporated in the lyrics of "Uki Uki * Midnight".

[i] About Japanese Pitch Accent

At first I took Mr. NISHIKAWA's word "suika" at 3'05" as (dried) "watermelon", but it is actually "vinegared squid" (= su-ika). Thanks to ohi modeporoporo san on YouTube 2014 Mar. 21st pointing out this. And I took his word at 3'07" as "miso" (= fermented soybean paste), but it is actually "geso" (= (dried) squid arms). Thanks to Anonymous san on 2014 Aug. 2nd pointing out this.

Japanese language has the pitch accent. Some pairs of words are distinguished only by their accents. But the accents differ in regions, especially between regions near Kyoto and others (see Wikipedia for more). Mr. NISHIKAWA is from Shiga near Kyoto and speaks in something like Kyoto accent.

Then he spoke "su~i_ka_" (~:hi, _:low). At the very first moment I felt it's not "watermelon" (Kyoto:~~~, Tokyo:_~~), but I didn't know vinegared squid, and Miss Moa said she likes dried food, so I thought it was dried watermelon. Let me make an excuse. Japanese accent is not taught in school, and, by the influence of TV and many neighbors from other regions, some speak in a bit strange accents. In this part he seemed to speak in something like Tokyo accent but I missed it ("geso" Kyoto:_~, Tokyo: ~_).

In most cases strange accents don't cause trouble because the words are distinguishable by the context (e.g. "hashi" bridge/chopstick, "ame" rain/candy, etc). "Su-ika" was a rare case. I can't find its accent on the accent dictionary. Judging from general rules and other "su-***" (= vinegared food), it seems "~__" in Tokyo as he spoke, but seems not in Kyoto because "su_" or "su_u~" (= vinegar) and "i~ka~" (= squid) in Kyoto.

Notes

  1. Calpis (aka Calpico) is one brand of soft drinks. It's a lactic fermenting beverage.
  2. Shotgun is a style of drinking: pour some soda & some tequila (or any spirits), knock the glass down on the table to stir them, then drink.
  3. At the Summer Sonic Festival Osaka (2013 Aug.) BABYMETAL were photographed by Metallica's accompanying photographer, and one of Metallica came to watch BABYMETAL's performance. Probably this was in his mind. Metallica is one of Thrash Metal's Big Four.
  4. At Loud Park (festival 2013 Oct.) BABYMETAL talked with Matthew Kiichi Heafy of Trivium (American Metal Band) for Rolling Stone Japan (magazine)
  5. The younger members were three in 6th grade when Miss Yui was in 7th.
  6. BABYMETAL call their daily lives "yo o shinobu kari no sugata" (= disguise to avoid public notice) since they are the Dark Heroines summoned by the Fox God.
  7. "Love Live!" is a multimedia project (comic, anime, radio & music). Its story is: nine school girls form a group and want to be famous idols to prevent their school from closing down.
  8. Animate is the largest retailer of anime, comic, game, & related items in Japan. I guess the nearby Animate is about 800m distant from her meeting place.
  9. Mr. NISHIKAWA loves animes. He has sung many anime opening & ending songs, and he has appeared in some animes as guest character.
  10. Ichiban-kuji is a lottery. You pay 600 yen, and get the item designated to the lot you draw. That of "Love Live!" is quickly sold out.
  11. "Yozakura Quartette" (Night-Cherry-Blossom Q.) is a manga (& anime) of four girls fighting against bad yookai (= supernatural monsters) to protect their home town.
  12. The Japanese youth often say like "futuu ni ii" (= ordinarily good). In this case, some good horror stories are not so good stories in ordinary sense, but Miss Moa wants to say this is unconditionally a good story. The older people don't notice such tacit premises and complain about this usage of "futuu".

Notes

  1. She actually said "Yada" (= iya-da; dislike). Japanese girls often say this when they encounter an unexpected situation even if it is a happy one.
  2. In a winter day I saw a school girl putting on school sweat pants under her mini skirt in the train. Of course, warm stockings are allowed, but I occasionally (or rarely) see the girls in that style.
  3. When BABYMETAL was formed in the autumn of 2010, Miss Suzuka was 12 yr. (in 7th grade), and Miss Yui & Miss Moa were 11 yr. (in 5th grade).

In short: BABYMETAL were tense when appearing on Music Station.

This is a copy of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGiVVzNV4fQ with English subtitles. This is a short radio program "Chokotto Naito Nippon" (= a bit of 'All Night Nippon') broadcast by Nippon Broadcasting System on 2014 Feb. 17th (#1 of 5).
Takanori NISHIKAWA (aka T.M.Revolution) is a Japanese rock/pop singer, and he has some radio programs. I am sorry if I have mistaken the voices of SU-METAL, YUIMETAL & MOAMETAL. The strange male laughter you may hear is probably the voice of the assistant director beside Mr. NISHIKAWA.

Click [CC] or "Settings" at the bottom-right if the subtitles are not displayed.

Notes

  1. This is probably exaggerated a bit, but the average age of radio listeners is getting older because most young people don't start listening to the radio but the people who was young keep on listening. Mr. NISHIKAWA himself is 43 yr. as of 2014 Feb.
  2. The Summer Sonic is one of the biggest music festivals in Japan, Loud Park is the biggest heavy metal festival in Japan, and Inazuma Rock Festival is hosted by Mr. NISHIKAWA, held at Shiga Pref. (his birth place).
  3. About 13,000 gathered at Yoyogi, and nearly 20,000 gathered at Inazuma. She may have got a wrong impression because Inazuma was an open-air festival.
  4. The event is named "All Live Nippon Vol.2", and the weird bands he refers to are Golden Bomber and Man with a Mission.
  5. Music Station is a very famous music TV program in Japan. He and BABYMETAL appeared on Feb. 7th.
  6. Most in these programs Mr. NISHIKAWA calls BABYMETAL SU-META chan, YUIMETA chan & MOAMETA chan. This way of calling is rare (though BEBIMETA is common). Most people call BABYMETAL SU (chan), YUI (chan) & MOA (chan), or SU-METAL (san) YUIMETAL (san) & MOAMETAL (san).
  7. One should not say like this, but Mr. NISHIKAWA is 161cm tall, SU-METAL is taller than or equal to him, YUIMETAL is 153cm tall, and MOAMETAL is 151cm tall, as of 2014 Feb.

Akumu no Rondo

Released on 2014 Feb. 26th, included in the first album.
Lyric: Yuyoyuppe / Music: Yuyoyuppe / Arr.: Yuyoyuppe

This is SU-METAL's solo tune.

Akumu no Rondo (Nightmare Rondo)

The waning moon has lit up
the insanity rampant in the shade.
The laughter resounds around.
It bares its fangs and its eyes gleam.
I can't escape from it.

It flickers slowly
appearing and disappearing in my mind.
A nightmare rondo is being repeated.
The awakening light
is gone far away out of my sight.
I can do nothing but run
through the darkness.

In the woods, in the fountain,
I hide myself holding my breath,
but it's still coming closer to me.
A stagnant voice. An endless night.
Ah...

If I can no longer get out of here,
won't you show me your figure?

It flickers slowly
appearing and disappearing in my mind.
A nightmare rondo is being repeated.
The awakening light
is gone far away out of my sight.
I can do nothing but fall
into the darkness.
